Real/Full Name: John Preston
Name Mostly Called: John, Preston, even 'Cleric' on occasion
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Alliance: The Resistance
Appearance: Despite his new freedom to experiment with his appearance, Preston has chosen to stick with the familiar, and as such, still keeps his black hair crisp and tidy. He has brown eyes, although his skin is a little more tanned than it used to be as he has discovered the joys of sunlight.
Usual Clothing: Preston almost always wears his cleric uniform - he feels comfortable in it, and has a slight paranoia that if he relinquishes it he will be caught out by a sweeper team and captured.
Special Weapons: His two modified 92FS Berettas, and anything his enemies might be carrying at the time. He is an expert with all weapons.
He himself is also the greatest weapon he uses, as a former First Class Cleric, he is a master of all armed and unarmed katas taught to clerics, and a skilled improvisor.
Family: His son and daughter Robbie and Lisa Preston.
Strengths: John has no match in physical combat. He is fast, strong and lethal. He is also strong-willed, and will remain standing where many would fall to their knees.
He has luck on his side most of the time.
Weaknesses: He is plagued with guilt for letting both Viviana and Mary die, and occasionally suffers depression at the thought of them.
He will do anything to protect his children.
He has quite a temper on him when something angers him past his tendency to suppress it.
Personality: Preston is mostly serious and staunch, although he is slowly developing a sense of humour and a more light-hearted side.
History:
Preston grew up a true child of Libria. He trained hard and by the age of 30 had reached the rank of 'Cleric, First Class'. Following the death of Errol Partridge, he was the highest ranked cleric in Libria.
His wife Viviana had been incinerated as a sense offender some years before, although the thoughts of which had never really bothered him until the new captive sense offender 'Mary' began to ask some unsettling questions.
Plagued with nightmares and now suffering some doubts, Preston made the decision to stop taking his dose. For the next month, he masqueraded as the unfeeling cleric he had always been, although the more he felt, the less faith he had in his society. When he realised that Mary, a woman who he was beginning to care about, was going to be executed, he located the resistance and organised with them to take down the father, while prozium factories and dispensiaries were to be bombed.
Preston slaughtered almost a hundred men on the final route to the Father, before finding out that his society was run on fallacy and taking out the communications Hub responsible for broadcasting the Father all over the city.
Other Information:
He keeps a book of Yeats' poetry with him at almost all times.
Also the scrap of red ribbon that belonged to Mary.
RP Example:
Preston stood in the underground library room, staring around at the books, shelves and shelves of them. Once, he wouldn't have known how to appreciate them, would simply have ordered the sweepers to burn the lot or ship it off to EC-10, never to be seen again. The thought of all of this being lost brought a lump to his throat.
But now, he wondered how people had been able to think of so many things to write about that the walls of this room could be covered in books.
He flicked the switch on the CD player, from which Bach began to emanate with a quiet joyfulness, and smiled. This was what living was all about, and at the moment, he had just enough time to enjoy it. He closed his eyes and walked, running a palm along the spines on the shelves, savouring the feeling that there was no compulsory reading, and he chose one at random off the shelves: The Poetry of Sylvia Plath, a collection of her works.
Allowing himself to fall into the comfy armchair, he flicked open a page, and began to read.
